Page 2 of 6 Friday Arrival
Friday morning, 5 o'clock. Time to get up - sleepy as I was since I could not sleep the night as I was extremely nervous. During the two hour train ride, my head was wandering around and I approached the FedCon with mixed feelings: Will my expectations be met? Will I have fun there without my friends, all alone? Will I meet new friends? What will people think of my artworks? My meditative mood faded once I arrived in Bonn. I reserved a room in the Ambassador Hotel in Bad Godesberg, which was just 2,4 km away from the Maritim Hotel - which was too expensive for my tiny trainee salary. Initially, I were told that I could check in no earlier than 15:00. I was surprised as they handed out the room keys to me early in the morning, but I was happy: No need to get away in the middle of the convention! A traffic jam on the route to the Maritim Hotel made me walk more than I had intended. But, I nevertheless enjoyed it. The weather was hot and humid and contributed a lot to my good mood. The Maritim Hotel can be described in three words: big and shiny. A very nice location with a warm atmosphere. During my check-in for my press card (I was there as a member of the FedCon DVD crew), I met Christian - the administrator of the Scifi-Forum together with his wife. Both were also in a good mood and full of expectations. Just like for me, it was their first FedCon.
